Dr. Marelize Swart
About Dr. Marelize Swart, Ph.D., R.Psych.
Dr. Marelize Swart has full registration status as a psychologist in British Columbia. She brings with her more than 20 years of experience, obtained both in Canada and internationally, in the fields of mental health and sex therapy. She is one of two AASECT Board Certified Sex Therapists in British Columbia and the only person in BC that has obtained AASECT Diplomate status in Sex Therapy.
She earned her Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology in South Africa and her Doctoral Degree in Applied Psychology at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Advanced training: Institute for Advanced Study in Human Sexuality, San Francisco, California.
Dr. Swart completed a one year internship in Family Therapy under Dr. Karl Tomm at the University of Calgary, AB, followed by another yearlong internship in Clinical Sexuality at the former Human Sexuality Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary, AB.
For six years, Dr. Swart has instructed medical students at the University of Calgary in Human Sexuality and for the past few years she has taught sex therapy to the Masters degree students in Counselling Psychology at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC. She has recently returned (2010) from a one year sabbatical where she furthered her training in individual, couples and sex therapy at the Council for Relationships in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Swart has been featured as the sex expert in the following magazines and news papers: Chatelaine, Glow magazine, The Vancouver Sun, The Toronto Sun, The Calgary Sun, The Georgia Straight, The Calgary Herald, the Vancouver Metro and internet articles. *She has recently moved back to her home country South Africa and will continue her private practice near Cape Town.
